THERAPY “GEEK GROUPS”
Therapeutic Tabletop Role-Playing Game (TTRPG) groups
Therapeutic Tabletop Role-Playing Games (TTRPGs)
Explore healing through imagination, storytelling, and connection.
At Still Water Professional Counseling, our Therapeutic Tabletop Role-Playing Game (TTRPG) groups, or Geek Groups, offer a powerful and engaging way to support emotional growth, social skills, and mental wellness through collaborative storytelling. Designed and facilitated by licensed therapists, these small-group therapy experiences use the structure of games like Dungeons & Dragons to help participants explore identity, build self-esteem, strengthen communication, and practice emotional regulation—all within a supportive, imaginative fantasy world.
Each closed 10-week group is intentionally crafted around specific therapeutic goals, such as managing anxiety, improving self-expression, navigating relationships, and developing resilience. Participants engage in a shared narrative where choices, challenges, and teamwork reflect real-life emotional experiences, allowing for deep insight and personal growth.
Therapeutic TTRPGs are ideal for:
- Teens and adults seeking a creative approach to therapy
- Individuals who thrive in group settings
- Those interested in using role-play and imagination for personal development
- Clients working on identity, self-advocacy, or social connection
Why it works:
By embodying a character in a fantasy setting, participants can explore emotions, make meaningful choices, and receive feedback in a safe and non-judgmental space. These groups foster trust, curiosity, and collaboration—offering a unique blend of therapeutic support and gameplay.
